In the Medicine Cards, Sams and Carson offer teachings from animal medicine. They have brought together what they have learned from the animal kingdom and their teachers through out the years. The cards are illustrated with each animal that is beautifully done with in a Dream Catcher. Each card shows one animal with in the Dream Catcher with its name and number. Assigned to each card is a special quality that reflects that animals nature.
It is a method of divination to assist your soul to find its path through the medicine of animals. Each aspects of the animal has its own medicine to teach one in your life. Each part of creation has a distinctive place with in the Medicine Wheel all its own. The Authors have taken teachings from the Lakota, Aztec, Cheyenne, Choctaw, Cherokee and other tribes traditions to show us the doorway of understanding ones self with our connection to Mother Earth.
The 1988 edition had just 44 animals but 8 more have now been added in the 1999 edition. Nine blank cards are also included, this is so you can add your own extra animals. The book Medicine Cards: The discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals (255 pages) describes animal medicine in Native American teachings, the gift of each animal and how that gift may be impacting in your life. A contrary or reversed meaning is also given for each card. The artist Werneke does a wonderful job of showing you each animal.
Some animals may be your power animal for a life time while others are here to show you some aspect of your life that you may be needing to learn. Loyalty for the Dog and the Gentleness for the Deer, the Turkey for Giveaway, and the Joy for Hummingbird are a few of the animals you can learn by. I enjoy using these cards and their wisdom. And you will too! A good deck to have for your collection. Great for beginners.
