Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is a specialty of medicine and dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the face and jaws. Our faculty are trained to treat trauma, congenital and acquired defects and disorders, facial infections, cancers of the head and neck region, as well as to perform extractions, placement of dental implants, and dental anesthesia and sedation. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery conducts  predoctoral curriculum in OMS, a 6-year MD/OMS-Certificate Residency Program, and a 1-year, hospital based, General Practice Residency (GPR).

The primary objective of the undergraduate curriculum is to provide didactic and clinical training in routine dentoalveolar surgery, management of medically compromised patients, local anesthesia and sedation, and pain control. The 6-year OMS Residency Program is designed to meet the certification requirements of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and includes integrated didactic and clinical instruction in oral and maxillofacial surgery, medicine, general surgery, anesthesia, anatomy, and pathology. The 1-year General Practice Residency Program (with a second year option) is designed to provide advanced training in all areas of dentistry in order to enhance the skills acquired during predoctoral education. These objectives are achieved by integrating a unique clinical and didactic program only available through a dental school/hospital based program.

The guiding principles of our programs include compassion, respect and regard for the inherent dignity of patients, high moral and ethical standards, commitment to evidence-based clinical practice, and technical excellence in the full scope of the profession.

Join us for virtual fitness classes! Just click the links below to register through Zoom and you will receive further details on how to participate. Recreation fitness manager Jeff Palmer will guide you through these energizing classes designed to do at home.

Jeff is a 10-year veteran of the fitness industry and has his masters degree in exercise science. At a young age, Jeff learned the power and importance of health and wellness as he lost 127 pounds with the aid of a personal trainer. Since that time, Jeff has moved on to manage fitness programs at a variety of locations and he hopes to instill his passion for wellness in you!

Jeff is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, and he has his American Council on Exercise Group Fitness Certification.


WEEKLY LIVE STREAM SCHEDULE

These classes are open to any and all fitness levels! All fitness classes will utilize your own body weight and do not require any equipment; please see below for full class descriptions. You will need about 4″ x 4″ of space to do these workouts safely. Working out on carpeting is recommended but not required. We also suggest wearing comfortable, non-restrictive clothes. All classes will be taught by Jeff Palmer, except Zumba, which will be taught by Karen Cornelio.

*FREE and open to all UW students, faculty/staff, family, friends, and anyone else who needs support during this time; all start times are in Pacific Time. Please click on class title to pre-register.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Up for a challenge? Boot Camp will make use of a variety of body weight movements that will keep you guessing! The goals? Get stronger, move faster, and feel better in 50 minutes!

This 50 minute muscular endurance-based workout will provide you with the “fundamentals” of exercise and will make your body feel stronger and leaner!

Perfect for everybody and every body! Each Zumba class is designed to bring people of all levels together to sweat it out. Zumba takes the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and world rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Super effective? Check. Super fun? Check and check.

Zumba is a total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

You’ll need some room to get down, supportive shoes, water nearby, and a towel.
